I'm Francesca and I'm Italian, I'd like to know which one of these two sentences a mothertongue would use:

Mario Rossi is the mind of Applied Functional Science

or

Mario Rossi is the Applied Functional Science mind

Let me try to help you out!

The correct way would be to say "Mario Rossi is the mind of Applied Functional Science". Since with possessives, we can only use ' or 's when the possession belongs to a person/animal. In both phrases which you have provided, the possession is about an institution/department. In which case we would use 'of (the)'.
