I wonder what the difference is when we say go on holiday , go for a holiday , have a holiday & take a holiday ?

according to the longman dictionary of contemporary english, have and take a holiday are exactly the same. go on holiday and go for a holiday? the former is preferred though the latter is also correct. though i'd say go somewhere for a holiday.
