The relative pronouns can be omitted if they are the object of the relative clause:

 

  • The woman who wanted to be interviewed spoke six languages. ('woman' is the subject of the sentence)
  • The woman (that/who) I wanted to interview spoke six languages. ('woman' is the object. 'I' is the subject)
