They is a pronoun, nominative case. eg, “Are you looking for John and Mary? They are in the garden” Them is also a pronoun, but objective case. eg, “Are you looking for John and Mary? I saw them in the garden”.

THEY- Is a pronuon (the third personal plural) A group of people, animals, plants, previously mentioned.

example I have a car and truck, but they  are both broken

THEM- Is a pronoun (plural)  which means those ones
