Why do some of them ending in o add only -s and others -es? How do you explain that, please?

Apple=Apples , Cherry = cherries .

İf the name is finishing with 'y',you need to use ies

İf the name is finishing with any any letters without y,you need to use only s.

For most of the nouns add -s-

chair- chairs.

for nouns ending in consonant and Y  change y into i and add -es-

dictionary- dictionaries.

for nouns ending in s,ss,sh,ch,x, o and z add -es-

tomato-tomatoes

bus-buses

for nouns ending in O but aren't english words just add- s-

piano- pianos

taco-  tacos
